The Afro-Cuban ensemble in Europe!

The mix of talents and influences that pianist/producer Ricardo Alvarez has brought together with the current lineup of Cubanísimo has peaked with the album’s release “Marketing”. It’s not by accident that this fusion and modern sound occurs in the German port city of Hamburg, a well-known North European cultural metropolis. The current concept of the band merges the popular Afro-Cuban style with such innovative lyrics (football, social networks, global marketing) and heavy rock guitars under rhythm patterns infected with timba, songo, son and rumba.

Founded in 1998 as a Cuban dance band in the style of the 50s and in the crest of the wav of Buena Vista Social Club, Cubanisimo became the only band of its kind in Europe, the result of the excellence of its exclusive repertoire, elegant arrangements and prestige musicians. The first album entitled “Clásicos al estilo de los 50s” contains the salsotecas hit “Cubanisimo”. The orquestra performed extensively in festivals and events, establishing it as a reference of afro-Cuban music made in Europe.

Ricardo Alvarez had not only a musical education, but also is a Computer Science/Mathematics graduate. After being classmate of Issac Delgado and Giraldo Piloto, he starts his music career in Cuba with funk, jazz and nueva trova projects, such as Arkanar, Manuel Valera, Vicente Feliú and Pulsos. Later he continued working as a producer in Germany with superstars like Nena, Lou Bega and Scatman John, and also founding bands of different directions like Cuarteto Chanchullo (Afrocuban jazz) and Extravaganza (electro-jazz) with guest Chucho Valdés (Irakere), both with album releases in Cuba and Europe.
