Ricardo Alvarez' Professional Biography

 

2010-2011  Back in Hamburg he found new projects: Trio Kimbara (Caribbean dance), Jikamo Soul (afro-percussion band) und Melizma (Latin pop/kazz). New album production for Cubanisimo with original songs and guest stars like Giraldo Ploto, Sixto “El Indio” Llorente and Julio Padrón. Work as piano teacher and band coacher.

 

2007-2009  Single production for the German superstar Lou Bega. Contract with Steinberg for the translation and production of the spanish soundtrack for the tutorial DVDs “Internal Mixing Vol. 1 y 2“ and "Audio Mastering for PC-Workstations Vol. 1, 2 y 3“. Work in Canary Islands. Founder of new bands Danzonete and Payaypaká. Cubanísimo is presented in big festivals like San Fermín 2009 Pamplona, Viva Cuba in Moscow and CIMA 2009 in Toscana, Italy.

 

2004-2007  New projects like Timbabeat, Cuban Chillout and Latin Smooth Jazz. Demos and concerts. Independent productions in Germany for Jan Degenhardt, Carlos Zapata, Dante, Danny D and Sait Cavus.

 

2003-2006  Solo proyect Extravaganza. Contract and album with Cuban record company EGREM, 7 titles composed by Alvarez. Guest artist: Chucho Valdés (5 Grammys). Album presentation by the international event Cubadisco in Havana with luxury guests: Roberto Carcassés, Orlando Sánchez and Jorge L. Chicoy. Album license for Europe by Urban Colors, Madrid.

 

2000-2006  Founder of Cuarteto Chanchullo, a unique band, capable of playing any music style in the Latin music including jazz. Album with huge success in Cuba and Europe. Composer of a radio hit and brilliant critique on Latin media in USA, Europe and Cuba. European and Asian tours, also with Cuban diva Caridad Hierrezuelo. Jazz  and Salsa Festivals.

 

1998-2001  Founder of Salsa/Cuban orchestra Cubanisimo and producer of its first album, opening his own record label and production studio Alvarez Music. Radio/Club hits in Cuba and Europa. European tours and successful critique into the Latin scene. Production of a variety of Latin artist albums.

 

1994-1997  Under contract in Germany as arranger/producer. Album by the band Frecuencia Mod (Chile), two-year composer contract for EMI-Spain. Tours in Spain and Cuba. Album and tours with quartet Side by Side (Germany/USA) and children music album for the German superstar Nena.

 

1993-1994  Founder, keyboard and director of the music groups Pulsos (Pop/Rock) and Word Apart (Fusion/Funk). Composer of the nationwide hit “Dondequiera que estés”.

 

1992-1993  Freelance producer for diverse Cuban artists.  Music for TV soundtracks and radio advertising. More than 120 titles recorded.

 

1987-1991  Keyboarder, composer and arranger in the bands Arkanar  (Fusion/Nueva Trova) and Vicente Feliú (Nueva Trova). Composer of national hit “Ataque de Fuego”.

 

1986-1992  Database specialist and systems programmer, Physical Planning Institute, Cuba.
